Kupec's Korner has been updated.

April

This week students are participating in the City Treasurer's financial education initiative "Money Savvy" financial literacy program. Students who complete their packets with their parents and return them next week during library will be entered into a raffle to receive a Money Savvy Piggy Bank. Students are discussing the four ways they can use their money; Save, Spend, Donate, and Invest.

Thank you to the wonderful parents who came in to help during the book fair. There were hundreds of books labeled and shelved. The final numbers from the book fair will be posted as soon as they are available.

Congratulations to our newly elected LSC members.

LSC Candidate Statements now posted for your review!

 October is Fire Prevention Month.

Don't forget to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Remember to talk as a family about your home emergency plan. Do you know where to meet your family if you have to leave your house because of a fire?

   6th Annual Halloween Hoopla

This event is sponsored by the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce. Families gathered in the back playlot for this Halloween event including the famous hayride! Many thanks to the Chamber and the many hands that volunteered to make this another memorable event. It gets better each year!

September is Library Card Campaign Month.

Your Most Important School Supply

Every student needs to have a Chicago Public Library Card. Students will be taught how to access and utilize the resources on the Chicago Public Library website. If you do not have a CPL card, visit our local branch with a parent or guardian to apply.

  Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th.  It is a celebration of the culture and traditions of Americans with roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

Test your knowledge of Latino History by taking this short quiz and brush up on your Spanish. Visit this great Scholastic site and learn more about Hispanic Heritage.

Thank You Chicago Blackhawks!

We would like to thank the Chicago Blackhawks' organization for their allocation of funding to our library media center. Due to this generous contribution, we were able to purchase $5000 in Sports and Fitness books. The majority of these books are found in the 700 section of our library.

Please participate in our poll, located under the left navigation menu, to vote on what we will call this updated section of our library. We have narrowed the choices to "Blackhawks' Book Nook", "Blackhawks' Center Ice", or "Blackhawks' Nest". We greatly appreciate the Chicago Blackhawks Organizations' generosity.
